Christmas in Brazil

In Brazil , Santa Claus is called Papai Noël. Many Christmas customs are similar to the ones in the USA or UK. Favourite Christmas foods in Brazil include chicken, turkey, ham, rice, salad, pork and fresh and dried fruits. Many people start the Christmas celebrations on Christmas Eve with fireworks and a big churruso which is a BBQ. Sometimes children leave a sock near a window. If Papai Noël finds your sock, he'll exchange it for a present!!

Kellan's research about the feilding clock tower

The feilding clock tower was first built in 1904 above the old post office. The post office was damaged because of an earthquake in the Wairapa in 1942. It had to be knocked down and the clock was put away for 56 years. The community decided to build a new clock tower for the millennium (2000). The clock was placed in a new tower in the middle of Manchester square and started working again at midnight on 31st December 1999 to welcome in the new century. The bell weighs 540kg and each face on the clock measures 1.5 metres in diameter. The original feilding town clock above the post office.
