Thomas has been to Kaikoura. He said he saw lots of seals and dolphins. He stayed with his family at a holiday park. I hope he tells us a bit more about his trip there.

Where in New Zealand am I?
I am in the South Island. I have a lake. You can go bungee jumping and you can go skiing, too. Also, you can go on a jet boat. Tourists love me.

Q Bear had a weekend with Kade. What a fantastic weekend, too. Q Bear got to go up to Tauranga and spend time with Kade's family. You can see them in the car, belted in and ready to go. He tried on one of Kade's hats; it wasn't a good fit. Q Bear went flying. I wonder what he could see from way up there. It was a fun weekend.

Awesome Athletes
We have had our Athletics. It was a fun day. We were very lucky that it had rained and we had grass to compete on. The teachers watched the students participate and made notes. These students made an outstanding effort on the day. Well done.

Why is New Zealand Called New Zealand
Dylan asked a great question, "Why is New Zealand called New Zealand?" That is an awesome question and I have looked up the answer.
When the country was founded its original name was Staten Landt but the name New Zealand originated with Dutch cartographers who called the islands Nova Zeelandia after the Dutch province of Zeeland.
There is/was a province in Holland called Zeeland. New Zealand was called after that province. There are various similar names around the world.
