Kotahi's Praying Mantis
Kotahi brought in a praying mantis today. He took it out of the container. It crawled up his arm and onto his head. Kotahi was not afraid of it because he knew it would not bite him.
We found out some interesting information on Praying Mantids. We now know:
- They are carnivores
- The spikes on their front legs are for holding their prey.
- They can turn their heads 180*.
- They have two compound eyes, one on each side of their head.
- They can fly.
- They are very quick at catching their prey; so fast that they look like a blur when you watch them catch their meal.
- Bats, birds, frogs and lizards like to eat praying mantids.
Thanks Kotahi for sharing you beautiful insect with us.
